Leek United Building Society’s Affinity Account
Affinity accounts are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, as an ideal way to combine financial ease for you and a way of improving and supporting others. By the end of 2005, there were over 148 affinity accounts available in the UK with a total of £620 million saved.
Leek United and the County Air Ambulance Trust has cemented its ongoing partnership by launching an Air Ambulance affinity account. This means that whilst savers, who invest in this account, are saving for their future they are also helping to save lives.
The agreement is that for every £100 saved in the account for a year, Leek United will donate £1 to the vital work of the Air Ambulance.
What differentiates the Leek United affinity account to many others offered by building societies is the choice of charity it supports. The County Air Ambulance Trust covers the whole spectrum of savers – newborns to the elderly, as well as covering all the Leek United branches within its 8,000 square mile area.
The Trust is a self-funding organisation, providing a crucial link to hospitals in an emergency. Despite receiving no government support, it costs in excess of £7 million per year to operate the Air Ambulance Services in the region. The aim is to save lives by reaching and treating people within the “Golden Hour” – the first hour after the injury or attack. It is estimated that the majority of people who survive, no matter how serious their condition, is because they receive attention within this first hour.
The donation Leek United makes to the Trust will not be deducted from savers interest, which means that there is no cost to the customer, just the knowledge that they are doing their bit!
